Course Overview

Compass Pointe Golf Course in Pasadena, Maryland, offers an accessible yet engaging golf experience spread across 36 holes of meticulously maintained public play. Divided into two 18-hole courses—the Northeast and Southwest layouts—the facility caters to a broad range of golfers looking for quality rounds without the exclusivity of a private club. With well-groomed fairways, firm but receptive greens, and a layout that balances challenge with enjoyment, Compass Pointe stands out within Anne Arundel County and the greater Baltimore area.

Located along Fort Smallwood Road, the course sits amid gently rolling terrain, offering an inviting mix of tree-lined holes and open vistas that respond subtly to prevailing winds. The Southwest course, in particular, provides a blend of strategic options, including a variety of par 5s that test distance and decision-making, alongside tighter par 4s that reward accuracy. Both courses invite players of all levels to engage with the game, providing risk-reward opportunities without overwhelming novice golfers.

Amenities extend beyond the course itself with a spacious, clean clubhouse and practice facilities that help prepare players before their round or fine-tune their short game after. The grounds reflect a commitment to maintenance, with players regularly noting the condition of greens and fairways as a highlight. Walking is encouraged, allowing golfers to immerse themselves fully in the environment and rhythm of the layout, though carts are readily available for comfort and convenience.

Compass Pointe's location in Pasadena makes it readily accessible from Baltimore and surrounding communities, positioned in Central Maryland's coastal plain. Military discounts enhance its appeal, and the welcoming atmosphere extends through the staff and on-course services. Great course, I play compass 3-5 times a month. The course is always in great shape. Even better shape this year. Definitely one of the best public courses in Anne Arundel County & Baltimore City/Co area.

Great course with awesome military discounts. Unfortunately, our round was soured by a ranger named Ed. He approached us on hole 13 — very rudely and with an attitude — telling us to pick up the pace because the next hole and a half were clear. This was surprising, as we hadn’t seen the group ahead of us since teeing off that morning, and we were never once pushed by the group behind us. In fact, when we finished 18, there still wasn’t a group on the tee box behind us. We were playing a solid round at a great pace, but his poor attitude and decision to follow us for a few holes completely disrupted the experience. To make matters worse, I overheard him loudly complaining about us to coworkers in the clubhouse after we finished. I’ve played enough to know golf etiquette and when it’s time to move along — this wasn’t that. His behavior was unnecessary, unprofessional, and disappointing for an otherwise great course.

This is a great course! My team played the southwest course. There are a few par 5s which add a nice challenge. The grounds appeared to be well taken care of. I'm new to golf but really enjoyed the course. I highly recommend playing here.
