Stagg Hill Golf Club
Stagg Hill Golf Club is a mature, tree-lined 18-hole course in Manhattan, Kansas, offering a test of precision and strategy. Known for its tight fairways, dogleg holes, and well-kept conditions, it challenges mid to low handicap players with fast greens and thoughtful play.
Course Overview
Stagg Hill Golf Club in Manhattan, Kansas, presents an exacting test for golfers who appreciate a course that demands precision and thoughtful strategy. This 18-hole layout carves its way through a mature stand of large trees, crafting narrow fairways that challenge even the most confident shotmakers. The course’s classic design encourages a measured approach, where accuracy off the tee is rewarded and errant drives are often swallowed by the deep rough or shaded woodland.
Conditioning at Stagg Hill consistently draws praise, with well-manicured fairways and fast, true greens that respond sharply to skilled putting. Golfers will find a sequence of dogleg holes that shape the rhythm of the round, inviting tactical decisions about risk and reward. The course plays at a length that tests length but clearly favors placement within its tree-lined corridors, making it an engaging experience for mid to low handicappers.
Set in a quietly scenic area outside of the Kansas State University campus, the club maintains a traditional golf atmosphere with an emphasis on member service and course quality. While the terrain stays mostly level, the mature tree coverage introduces a feeling of separation from its surroundings, drawing focus to shot execution over big hitters’ power. The clubhouse offers a welcoming space to regroup after your round with amenities designed for members and their guests.
Stagg Hill suits players looking for a challenging test that values skill over leverage. While the tighter fairways and strategic bunkering are less forgiving to beginners, the course’s well-kept conditions and brisk pace keep the experience rewarding. Members and guests are encouraged to walk when possible, and the course’s layout lends itself well to foot-powered exploration when conditions allow.
For those planning a visit, timing your round early in the day can enhance your experience, with dew-wet fairways and calm winds helping to tame the course’s natural difficulty. Comfortable shoes are recommended as walking paths weave under the canopy of towering oaks. Stagg Hill Golf Club stands as a fine example of a golf course that upholds traditional values while offering a compelling, hands-on challenge for serious golfers in the Manhattan area.
Course Highlights
The course’s defining trees create a narrow corridor guiding each hole’s direction, especially on signature doglegs that require strategic placement. Fast, well-maintained greens test putting touch while maintaining true rolls. The peaceful woodland setting enhances focus without dramatic elevation changes, delivering a classical, thoughtful golf experience.

Spoke at a meeting at the Stagg Hill Golf Club . The Manager, Chad, was presenting his tournament for an organization and had the entire group organized and ready on time and lined up well. He is very thorough in preparation. Course was in great shape and looked amazing despite some dry weather recently. Well done!

Being an older course we weren't sure what to expect when playing here for the first time but I'm glad we stopped. Course is pretty challenging with lots of large trees around. Course was in great shape when we played and pace was quicker than average. Course is laid out nice with lots of dogleg holes.

Paid 4 Grand to buy a golf cart, in order to not pay golf cart fees. Stag Hill charges you EXTRA to bring your own golf cart. What kind of crap is that? U would think bringing your own cart and not wearing out their carts would make your golf fees cheaper. Not with this place.
