Council Bluffs, Iowa, USACentral Iowa

Whispering Woods Golf Club presents an 18-hole parkland layout woven through wetlands and woodlands in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Its manageable design and refreshed clubhouse create an inviting setting for golfers seeking a balance of natural beauty and strategic play.

Course Overview

Whispering Woods Golf Club offers an 18-hole challenge set within the unique landscape of wetlands and mature woodlands in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The course’s layout draws players into a setting where water features and natural marsh areas frequently intersect with fairways, demanding precise shot-making and thoughtful course management. Its parkland style integrates subtle elevation changes and a mix of tight, tree-lined corridors along with more open, forgiving holes, creating a versatile test of golf that appeals primarily to mid- and high-handicap players seeking an enjoyable round with strategic interest.

The course delivers a playable yet engaging experience, with fairways that encourage creativity around the hazards and greens that reward an accurate approach. While it is not built for low handicappers chasing relentless difficulty, Whispering Woods presents enough variety to keep a round stimulating without becoming frustrating. The wetland environment brings a diverse array of flora and fauna into view, making for a distinctive atmosphere that sets the tone from the first tee through the closing holes.

A recently remodeled clubhouse enhances the overall experience, featuring modern amenities including open-concept event space, a bar, and scenic views overlooking the course. This addition provides a comfortable gathering spot for both members and guests, complementing the laid-back hospitality noted by many who visit.

While maintenance and turf conditions have seen both praise and criticism, efforts continue to improve course upkeep, particularly in areas affected by the natural wetland setting. Golfers planning a visit should prepare for the presence of seasonal insects and bring appropriate gear to ensure comfort throughout their round. Walking is supported with relatively flat terrain and well-kept cart paths, although sturdy footwear is recommended due to occasional damp areas.

Whispering Woods suits those looking for a peaceful round where nature plays a prominent role, combined with a casual yet thoughtfully designed golf experience. The blend of wetland vistas and thoughtfully routed holes offers a game that rewards patience and attention to detail without demanding expert-level execution on every shot.

Course Highlights

Once again I am posting about this golf course, as their "neighbors" we have experienced firsthand their lack of mowing again this year. The flowerbed across the fairway at the Tee box is a weed patch again this year, great breeding ground for chiggers and mosquitos. The mosquitos, ticks and dandelions are producing a bumper crop so be prepared when you golf here. Make sure you bring your bug spray if you golf in the weedpatch. I just spoke to one of their employees, as usual he blew me off and could care less, typical for this place, he could care less and his attitude said it all.

Just finished a scramble there today and I would highly recommend golfing here. I had golfed here when it was previously Fox Run and there is definitely a difference. They have made many improvements and are continually working towards making it the best possible experience. The staff are beyond awesome and that is from the management to the cart girl. They made this place fun and inviting. If you haven’t been here since they changed hands or have never been here give them a chance because you won’t be disappointed!

Just played this course for the first time and although the local I played with said they have made dramatic improvements and it wasn't quite there yet I thought it was maintained very well. For being in a wetlands area only one of the greens were really bad. Fun course, not terribly difficult but plenty of places for trouble if your shot gets off track. Pace was a little slow, but an employee did let us know that they talked to the group ahead of us about speeding up. Pretty sure it was the owner himself and he thanked us for playing. Definitely recommend this course.

Played there on 4/30/25 and I thought it was in bad shape when it was Fox Run but somehow the new ownership made it even worse! At least when it was Fox Run it was only $22 with cart on weekdays which made it worth dealing with the crappy grass but now it’s $36 and even crappier grass. More dandelions than I have ever seen I guess they don’t know what weed and feed is! Tee boxes and greens are both terrible! At least they spent money on the club house it looks better. Wouldn’t recommend this course to anyone. It made me give one star before it would post my comments or it wouldn’t even have rated there.

We rented out the newly remodeled clubhouse for a graduation party. We had over 100 guests, and the space was perfect with an open concept, bar, beautiful views of the course, and TV’s in the room. Our guests raved about the renovation and many had plans to book the space for their upcoming events. The staff were very accommodating with anything we needed. What an amazing space!! Thank you Whispering Woods!
