Dayton Ridge Golf Club

Ottawa, Illinois, USACentral Illinois

Dayton Ridge Golf Club provides a straightforward 9-hole layout focused on affordability and ease of play. Its dry terrain and simple design appeal to beginners and casual golfers looking for a relaxed, no-frills round near Ottawa, Illinois.

Course Overview

Dayton Ridge Golf Club offers an approachable, budget-friendly golfing experience situated in rural Ottawa, Illinois. This 9-hole course caters primarily to casual players and beginners, emphasizing accessibility over intricate design or top-tier course conditions. The layout unfolds across relatively flat terrain dominated by dry fairways and greens, providing a straightforward test of basic shot-making rather than technical challenges seen at higher-end facilities.

Players will notice the course’s simplicity: fairways blend into the rough, and bunkers lack the sculpted presence typical of more maintained courses, often taking the form of dirt patches rather than sand-filled hazards. Nonetheless, the open setting allows sunlight to flood the course, and occasional gentle breezes add a subtle element that influences club selection and shot control.

Maintenance has been a noted concern among visitors, with dry, uneven greens and patchy fairway conditions affecting overall playability. A lack of practice facilities means golfers should plan ahead for warming up elsewhere before teeing off. The course is clearly aimed at golfers prioritizing affordability and ease rather than pristine playing surfaces or extensive amenities.

Cart rentals are available and recommended for those easing through the layout, as walking paths are informal and the terrain can feel dry underfoot. The clubhouse and restroom facilities are basic and functional, though some recent feedback points to areas needing attention on cleanliness and upkeep.

For players looking to experience golf in a relaxed setting with a no-frills approach, Dayton Ridge Golf Club presents an opportunity to enjoy the game without pressure or complexity. Its straightforward holes encourage focus on fundamentals, making it suitable for families, newcomers, or those seeking a quick round at a low price.

While it does not offer the refined landscaping or challenge of premium courses nearby, Dayton Ridge stands as a reminder that golf can remain an accessible pastime. Planning a visit here means preparing for modest conditions and embracing a stripped-back version of the game, best suited for players who seek value and simplicity when hitting the links.

In terms of upkeep, that is where the rating is lower. The fairway is okay, but it's mostly crabgrass, not real turf. The greens were rough. The sandpits are literally just dirt. They do keep is mowed at least. Kind of hard to follow the course on where you are going. The inside wasn't very clean. It might have just needed redone to make it look better. Bathrooms, specifically for the guys really need cleaned. I should also mention there are no practice greens. Now price is great! We did 18 holes with a cart for $28. That seems to be their regular fee. This was our first time going. We did get scolded for bringing our cooler. They were nice about it, but we already weren't thinking of coming back.

Probably worst course I’ve ever played. Yes it was cheap but if I could give a negative star it would be they don’t take care of this course

Only good thing to say is the staff is very friendly that is a plus. Course is not taken care of at all, greens are extremely dry, slow do not break, fairways look like the rough, sand traps are just as a big dirt pile, also very confusing where to go if it’s your first time The tee boxes are also just kinda there in the fairway. Very rough course needs some proper maintenance and updating.

Golf course was not the best the ground was really dry and the fairways needed to be cut. The greens were very bumpy and had weeds growing on them they even had spots of dirt. The sand traps were either super dry dirt or beach sand. I would prefer a different local golf course.
