White Clouds Golf Course

Sun Valley, Idaho, USACentral Idaho

White Clouds Golf Course challenges golfers with a compact 9-hole mountain layout that combines steep elevation changes and striking Sun Valley views. Precision and strategy dominate this rugged track, perfect for players seeking a demanding round amid Idaho’s high-country scenery.

Course Overview

White Clouds Golf Course offers a challenging 9-hole layout that winds through the rugged terrain of Sun Valley, Idaho. Situated across the street from the renowned Trail Creek course, this mountain-style track demands careful strategy and precise shotmaking from players. The yardage may be modest compared to full 18-hole resorts, but what it lacks in length, it more than compensates for with steep elevation changes and tightly contoured fairways that carve along the hillsides.

From tee to green, White Clouds reveals panoramic views that capture the expansive Sun Valley landscape, with peaks climbing higher as the round progresses. The course’s natural topography shapes each hole with dramatic uphill and downhill shots that require thoughtful club selection and controlled tempo. Fairways are framed by native grasses and scrub pines, providing both an aesthetic edge and a stern test of accuracy as errant shots often run into challenging rough or hazard areas.

Designed to suit players who appreciate technical golf, White Clouds appeals especially to those seeking a rigorous mountain golf experience rather than the forgiving layouts common in lower-elevation resorts. While low handicappers will find the course’s contours and elevation a persistent challenge, mid-level players can still find enjoyment in the strategic demands and breathtaking scenery.

The course is maintained with care, offering consistently smooth putting surfaces and well-presented tees. Though it operates as a 9-hole course, the layout’s complexity encourages repeat rounds and various tee placements to keep the game fresh. The absence of a sprawling clubhouse emphasizes the pure golf experience, and players are encouraged to arrive prepared for a walking round, taking sturdy footwear to handle the terrain.

For those seeking mountain golf beyond Sun Valley’s more famous courses, White Clouds is a memorable and testing destination. Its blend of sharp elevation, demanding shot choices, and sweeping vistas create a spirited environment that rewards patience and precision in equal measure.

Course Highlights

Steep elevation changes define the course’s character, with fairways that climb and descend sharply along mountainsides. The track’s layout emphasizes shot placement over power, surrounded by native pines and rugged natural features. Each hole offers sweeping views of the Sun Valley valley below, creating a blend of demanding golf and memorable scenery.

Great course! It is beautiful. The course is built into/with the mountain. As you play through the course you get higher up the mountain and the views keep getting better. The elevation changes made the course tough for me. If you have the chance play this 9 holes. It is amazing.

Views of Sun Valley you won't forget!! Obviously, it's a tough course given that there isn't much room for forgiveness if you miss the fairways. Forget bombing it, play strategically, place your shots, and you will be rewarded!

Loved playing this 9 hole that winds through the hillsides across the street from Sun Valley. Very difficult course with extreme elevation changes. Really fun and beautiful scenery, with fairways and greens in good condition.

I mean I suck at golf and this course always makes me angry but it's golf. You hit one good shot here and you are happy so it gets 5 stars! I hit at least 3 good shots! (Hole 3 can die in a fire😂) Haha this course is so pretty and the views are immaculate! I would say it's not quite as amazing as the trail creek course at sun valley but it's pretty close! Absolutely play here if you have time and are in the mood to be angry and happy at the same time! Also the white clouds in the sky were definitely helping the course live up to it's name!

First time here and had a blast! Fun to be able to play the first 9 not knowing really where to hit it and then the 2nd time around being a little more strategic!
