SummerGlen Golf Club

Ocala, Florida, USACentral Florida

SummerGlen Golf Club in Ocala offers an 18-hole public parkland layout with a focus on precision and strategic shot-making. Balanced for a range of skill levels, it challenges players with thoughtfully placed hazards amid Florida’s natural terrain.

Course Overview

Located in Ocala, Florida, SummerGlen Golf Club presents an 18-hole public layout that combines the challenge of a championship course with a relaxed, approachable atmosphere. The course is designed on gently rolling terrain that emphasizes shot-making over brute distance, with a style that leans toward a parkland arrangement marked by tree-lined fairways and strategically placed hazards. This setting offers golfers a steady test of precision, where accuracy from the tee and thoughtful navigation around bunkers and water features command attention.

As you move through the course, varying elevations subtly influence club selection and trajectory. The greens at SummerGlen put a premium on putting speed and line, demanding focus and patience from all players. While the layout rewards low handicappers seeking to fine-tune their game, it remains accessible for mid- and high-handicap players, provided they manage course conditions judiciously.

The surrounding landscape features a mix of mature pines and open stretches, with occasional water hazards that force strategic decisions rather than penalize reckless shots. The course’s routing offers pleasant sightlines but is best played with a mindset tuned to precision rather than power.

Amenities are modest but functional, focusing primarily on the essentials of a golf outing. The clubhouse provides a basic gathering place for players before and after rounds, while on-course facilities meet standard expectations for a public venue. Walking is encouraged, given the course’s manageable scale and mostly even footing, though golfers should be prepared for Florida’s warm climate and bring appropriate hydration and footwear.

Visitors should note that course conditions have received mixed reviews, with maintenance occasionally impacting playability. It’s advisable to confirm current course setup and conditions ahead of booking tee times. SummerGlen is well-suited for golfers who appreciate a straightforward, no-frills golf experience in a Florida setting framed by natural greenery and subtle challenges. The course invites steady play and tactical decision-making amid a setting that both tests and welcomes players of varying skill levels.

Course Highlights

SummerGlen features well-placed bunkers guarding its greens and several water hazards that demand strategic approaches. The layout emphasizes accuracy over distance, set against a backdrop of mature pine trees and open fairways that frame the course with natural Florida charm. The finishing holes bring in elevated tees and challenging green complexes that require precise distance control. While some maintenance concerns have been reported, the course’s overall design offers a balanced test suited to a broad range of golfers.

This course is so poorly managed it’s not even funny. Brought a group of 20 to Ocala for a week of golf. Confirmed with Jackie on 2 separate occasions that we were on the books and good to go. Even gave CC information. Get to course the morning of our round and they have nothing saved for us. Golf pro John was called about it and we were told “they will figure out out”. Patty showed up and said “you were never put on the list because you never gave us any names to put on the tee sheet” What?! First you never asked us for any names, and secondly, we gave you CC information to hold 5 tee times. Hopefully Linda that had tee times at 9:30 was able to play since it was stated she didn’t have names on the list either. On top of the fiasco that is management, the course was really not in good shape. It needs to be cut and the greens are pretty bad. Save your money and go elsewhere. Only reason I gave this 2 stars is because they actually got us on the course even though we had to start 3 groups on 1st tee and 2 groups on 2nd tee.

Course is great, but the attitude of some players isn't. Yesterday we were approached by the ranger who told us that the 2 men behind us reported us for being slow and parking where we shouldn't. I told him it was because they hit into us as we were walking up to the green. They never asked to go ahead, so when I said you into us, their reply was what is your point? Really, come to find out they live there and are members. So I guess they have preference. I had a group of 10 women there and we will not be back, after the way we were treated by the ranger and their residents.

Fun layout, super nice staff but the course needs a lot of work. Fairways are torn up with no grass in spots greens are the worst I’ve played on in years. Mold, holes, dirt and bare spots. Most are unputtable with craters everywhere.

First: disregard the website promising Atlantic views (you can't see the ocean from Ocala), and a great restaurant and bar (there isn't one). Weeds appear on each fairway, and there isn't much grass! Finally, take care of directions to Summer Glen GC: Google Maps take you through a gated community, which you can't access! All-in-all, not a pleasant day out... a beer and a hot dog after the game would have increased the stars but no one appeared very apologetic. Shame.

Green are so bad. They said 10 was the worst. Well 17 of them were bad and the 9th was the only good one. Still paid over $50 dollars. That was robbery!! They also have no bar or food still. Wow I used to love this golf course. Money needs to be spend on that course and amenities.
