Ocala National Golf Club

Ocala, Florida, USACentral Florida

Ocala National Golf Club delivers an 18-hole public layout shaped by rolling hills and mature live oaks. Its classic design mixes gentle elevation changes and challenging greens that reward thoughtful shot-making in a relaxed Florida setting.

Course Overview

Ocala National Golf Club presents an 18-hole challenge carved into the gently rolling terrain of Central Florida. Situated at 4782 NW 80th Ave in Ocala, this public course offers a traditional layout marked by scenic elevation changes and stands of mature live oaks that frame fairways and greens alike. While the course’s condition shows signs of wear with patches of rougher fairway grass and bunker areas requiring attention, the well-maintained greens remain a highlight, providing a true test of putting skill and strategy. Players will find the undulating surfaces demanding thoughtful pace and precision.

The course plays to a par in the mid-70s, stretching over a respectable yardage that appeals to a broad range of golfers. Its classic design rewards shot-making and navigating the subtle contours of the landscape, especially on holes featuring elevation shifts that invite strategic club selection. The layout is straightforward enough for mid-handicap players yet offers enough complexity to engage more experienced golfers seeking to fine-tune their course management.

Amenities include a modest clubhouse and pro shop, though early arrivals should note the pro shop typically opens close to first tee times, limiting warm-up facilities. Walking the course is viable, with gently rolling terrain and mostly firm footing, but sturdy shoes are recommended given some uneven areas due to natural landscaping and course age.

Ocala National’s charm lies in its vintage appeal and natural environment, where the evergreen shade of live oaks provides relief from Florida’s sun. Though maintenance could be improved for a more polished appearance, many visitors appreciate the course’s solid layout and value, considering it a hidden opportunity for a quality round in the region.

For golfers planning a visit, prime playing conditions align with cooler months and mornings before the Florida heat intensifies. Bring ample hydration and prepare for pockets of sandy bunker textures and native rough. This course rewards patience and shot accuracy, making every round a quietly rewarding exploration of Central Florida golf heritage.

Course Highlights

The course’s standout features include its mature live oak corridors that shade fairways, subtle elevation shifts providing shot-making variety, and well-kept greens that demand precise approach shots. Though maintenance on bunkers and tee boxes shows room for improvement, the classic layout remains enjoyable and competitive. The natural Florida landscape contributes to serene views and a quietly challenging playing experience.

I never write reviews but this is an absolute terrible course. Has potential but the fairways are like pastures. Greens are full of divot holes from people not fixing there’s. Tee boxes are almost non existent. Pro shop doesn’t open until first tee time, zero warmup ability. Overall terrible experience.

Very old course. Great layout. Could be really a diamond in the rough if they put some money into it. Great elevation changes. Gave 3 stars because the course needs better maintenance. Grass growing in bunkers, fairways and greens need to be cut a little lower. But very fun course

I'll give 4 stars on this course because the greens were outstanding! Could the tee boxes, fairways and bunkers use some TLC, yes. But, they are far from terrible, and you can tell they're working on them. Scenic, challenging course that can't be beat for the price. This course has the potential to be one of Ocala's best layouts. We will definitely go back.

This is a beautiful old course in rolling hills with a lot of scenic live oak trees. Layout and design is classic and challenging. Tee boxes are bit rough but the greens are in great shape and the fairways are as good any other mid priced course in Central Florida.
