Ocala Golf Club
Ocala Golf Club offers a well-maintained 18-hole public layout combining approachable play with a few strategic challenges. Featuring soft, fast greens and a variety of hole lengths, it welcomes golfers of all levels for an enjoyable round in a central Florida setting.
Course Overview
Located in the heart of Ocala, Florida, Ocala Golf Club offers an 18-hole public course that strikes a rare balance between approachable play and subtle challenges. Its layout combines traditional parkland elements with straightforward routing through lush Florida terrain, making it a welcoming destination for golfers of every skill level. The fairways, wide and forgiving in many spots, invite an aggressive tee shot, yet a handful of holes demand thoughtful club selection to avoid hazards and out-of-bounds areas along nearby streets. This dynamic keeps the round engaging whether you are chasing a personal best or simply seeking a pleasing, stress-free outing.
The course’s greens have undergone significant improvements in recent years, now presenting a soft yet firm surface that rewards precise putting strokes. These surfaces do not sacrifice speed for playability; instead, they challenge touch and tempo, especially on undulating greens that require a steady hand. Five par 5s and five par 3s introduce a variety of distances and strategic considerations, providing golfers with the opportunity to test all facets of their game.
Situated within the urban fabric of Ocala, the course benefits from easy access and thoughtful amenities. The clubhouse offers a casual, welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff who facilitate a smooth round and make first-time visitors feel at ease. For those looking to warm up or fine-tune their iron play, the driving range features a turf hitting area and targets set at reasonable distances, while separate chipping and putting greens allow focused practice. Gas carts are available, enhancing pace of play, but the layout also suits walkers seeking a moderate test without excessive elevation change.
While the course operates with standard business hours, golfers are advised to confirm availability in advance to ensure tee time access, particularly in the evening. Ocala Golf Club stands as a value-driven choice for both locals and visitors looking for a well-maintained, inviting golf experience in Central Florida’s scenic surroundings.
Course Highlights
Ocala Golf Club stands out with its blend of traditional parkland design and urban accessibility. The course is notable for its diverse hole set, including five par 5s and five par 3s that challenge distance control and course management. Recent improvements to greens have elevated the putting surfaces, combining speed and softness rarely found at a city facility. The course features well-maintained turf throughout, with a driving range and dedicated short game practice areas enhancing preparation and practice. While some holes border residential streets, strategic design keeps the play safe and engaging.

I actually liked the facility...nice enough driving range if you dont mind artificial turf....which I like at driving ranges. Nice turf to hit your irons on. Also had a nicely maintained chipping and seperate putting greens. My kids bought me a range membership and thought has not went smooth, and is the reason for the 3 stars. After asking on the phone what time they close, and in person to verify it was 6:30, there was nobody there 2 of the 3 times i went. Granted i dont leave work till 5 and get there around or a little after 6....which is why I asked. One day was 6:09 and the other 6:14, lights off and door locked. I have keep going, so ill update if they get a little more reliable. I do not want to call everyday to check. If they said that when the membership was offered, I would of told them to kick rocks.

Affordable course, nice layout, easy to play. An errant drive on a couple holes will put your ball out in the street. Clubhouse is good, staff is nice and they don't follow you around the course like some do. Decent driving range with a net about 250 yards deep. Gas carts. If you want a fun time in the middle of Ocala proper, then be sure to tee off here.

This is an update to my review of 2 years ago. The Ocala Golf Course is one of my favorite courses in the Silver Springs area. The course is well taken care of and a joy to play. The course is well maintained and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I like the uniquely designed 5 par 5s and 5 par 3s. It is worth the effort to come and play golf here. I definitely recommend it for all skill levels.

I have been playing this course since 1997. I was told that they have a new guy as superintendent his name is Sean. So i decided to play today and I am blown away as how outstanding this course is. Over the past few years the fairways were sparce at times, lots of wet and worn areas and the greens were always plagued with problems. These greens are spectacular. All the problems they ever had are gone. It is very rare to find greens that play at this speed that still receive a ball. Usally they are dry and crunchy. These greens play soft and lightning fast. If you have any doubt as to how good this course has improved come and see for yourself. Country club quality at a city course price.
