The River Club

Lakewood Ranch, Florida, USACentral Florida

The River Club in Lakewood Ranch delivers a pristine 18-hole parkland layout marked by strategic water hazards and towering live oaks. Its private setting blends playability for all skill levels with top-notch conditioning and a natural grass driving range, making it a standout course in Central Florida.

Course Overview

Located in the vibrant golf community of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, The River Club presents an 18-hole championship layout that combines lush vegetation with thoughtfully crafted playability. This private course offers a parkland style setting characterized by wide fairways bordered by towering live oaks and natural wetlands, offering both strategic challenges and visual appeal. The course’s design accommodates players across skill levels, balancing straightforward holes that encourage confidence with more intricate approaches that reward precision and course management.

Golfers encounter an especially well-maintained putting surface system, praised for its smooth roll and responsiveness throughout the year. Water hazards come into play on a handful of holes, adding necessary risk-reward decisions without overwhelming the round. Trees and native grasses frame many tee-to-green segments, subtly guiding shot placement without constraining the golfer’s creativity.

Aside from the course itself, The River Club supports a visitor’s experience with a professional yet welcoming clubhouse equipped with dining and bar facilities. The venue provides a functional pro shop and ample parking, while the practice area features a high-quality driving range with natural grass tees—an increasingly rare find in the area—and respectable short-game facilities.

Players often highlight the smooth pace of the course on non-peak days, though at peak hours careful planning of start times is advisable due to tighter tee intervals. Walking is encouraged and friendly terrain helps maintain good energy through 18 holes, but comfortable shoes are recommended given the native terrain and occasional soft sandy spots.

With its competitive layout, excellent conditioning, and member-focused amenities, The River Club stands as a rewarding destination within Central Florida’s golf landscape. It invites players who appreciate meticulously kept grounds and a course that challenges smart strategy over raw power. Visitors looking for a blend of southern scenery and thoughtful golf will find a course that respects both tradition and accessible enjoyment.

Course Highlights

The River Club features a parkland design with mature live oaks and native wetland sections that protect holes with well-placed water hazards. The course’s signature hole presents an island green that tests putting precision and nerve. Its driving range stands out for offering natural grass tees, a notable rarity in the region enhancing warm-up quality. Maintenance is consistently commendable, particularly on the greens, which are renowned for their smooth, true surfaces.

Course condition is great, particularly the greens. Everyone I interacted with was kind and friendly as well. Unfortunately this course is another case of poor management. 8min apart tee times simply doesn’t work. I played at 345 on a Tuesday and still took over an hour for just the first 4 holes. Absolutely absurd and I won’t return, golf simply isn’t fun like this. If we’re going to allow 35 handicaps to play, they have to be policed. Picture shows backed up by the 6th hole, by 7 there were 4 groups.

Not happy that we had to follow and wait on a group 5 infront of us. Called the pro shop and they said it’s fine. Never been told a group of 5 is fine on a golf course.

Course conditions are pretty good. It's good value for money, course is nicer than the price would suggest. However - the mismanagement is absolutely insane and completely ruins your round. Tee times are 8 minutes apart, and there is zero effort from the rangers to move things along. It took us almost 4 hours today to play 9 holes, most of the holes were backed up with a line of 3-4 carts (6 - 8 players) waiting to tee off. 8 minutes is just completely impossible to play golf. We paid for 18 but left after 9, it's just not worth waiting 20+ minutes between each hole to tee off. Don't consider playing here unless you want a 6-7 hour round until they fix the tee times.

Played the course recently and it is in phenomenal shape. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant has good selection of food and spirits at reasonable prices. Highly recommend. Great value.

We were looking for a driving range which seems to be difficult to find in the Bradenton Area. Especially ones that let you hit off natural grass or plug in a tee. Scott was very friendly in the Pro Shop as we picked up our tokens to get our balls in the ball drop machine. The range is beautiful I really enjoyed it the grass is super green there they do a wonderful job maintaining it. They have a very large area where they move it up and down as the grass heals. Which in turn gives you a great surface to hit off of. There is a restaurant and a bar area inside which seem to be quite full so I would assume they have some decent food. Pro Shop is small and limited but there is some golf attire and Equipment there. There's also plenty of parking and a lot of shaded areas. I've included pictures of each hole some look very interesting and even with an island green. If this review helps you please give it a THUMBS UP.
