Esplanade at Azario Lakewood Ranch Golf Course

Lakewood Ranch, Florida, USACentral Florida

Esplanade at Azario Lakewood Ranch Golf Course offers an 18-hole public parkland layout defined by smooth fairways, fast and undulating greens, and abundant water features. With its balance of approachable wide fairways and challenging putting surfaces, this Florida course delivers an inviting yet testing golf experience.

Course Overview

Esplanade at Azario Lakewood Ranch Golf Course presents a modern approach to Florida golf, combining well-maintained fairways with expansive water features and native habitats. This 18-hole public course, located in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, offers a fresh experience for players seeking a blend of challenge and accessibility. The layout stretches over approximately 7,200 yards from the back tees, presenting a par-72 test that rewards strategic shot placement and demands attention around the undulating greens.

Set within a developing residential community, the course’s young landscape allows for wide fairways that accommodate golfers of various skill levels. However, the putting surfaces provide an elevated challenge with their pronounced slopes and subtle breaks. Golfers can expect few straightforward putts, demanding a steady touch and thoughtful green reading. While the course features several water hazards, these are not always in direct play, inviting a balanced risk-reward calculation especially on the mid to long holes.

The overall styling leans toward parkland with open views softened by newly planted trees and natural Florida wetland areas. Wildlife sightings, including native birds and occasional alligators near the wetlands, add a distinctive local color to the round. The practice areas such as the expansive driving range and dedicated putting greens create ample opportunity for warming up or honing short game skills.

Though some players find the layout modest in terms of signature holes, the course’s pristine conditioning and consistent maintenance stand out. The greens are fast but fair, and the fairway mowing patterns ensure clear lines of sight for approach shots. After play, the clubhouse amenities include a poolside restaurant and the Bahama Bar, offering a relaxed setting to unwind and reflect on the round.

Esplanade at Azario Lakewood Ranch is ideal for golfers who appreciate a well-kept course that balances challenge with playability. It suits players eager to test their precision on intricate greens without facing punishing narrow corridors. Visitors planning their visit should prepare for potential busy tee times, especially on weekends. Walking is allowed, with firm but smooth turf underfoot, and the relatively flat terrain makes for a comfortable experience. Overall, the course provides a sound Florida golf outing framed by evolving residential surroundings and natural charm.

Great golf course, great amenities, homes are very nice, the restaurant is very good and the Bahama bar is an excellent place to hang out grab a drink and food after golf or just enjoying food by the pool. Only complaint is there are over 900 seeded households for this one golf course. 8 minutes apart on tee times and 4 hour plus rounds. Harder to get to he tee times you want.

(10 HC) Played the Barstool Classic 2023 tournament here. The good: Very nice aqua range and practice putting areas. The overall course condition was great. The speed of the greens was fast but not ridiculous, rough was not thick but well maintained. It’s basically a new course and the membership isn’t established as they are still building out the homes around the entire course. Lots of water but it’s not always in play. Tons of native birds and a few gators out there. The bad: Course layout was mediocre at best not a lot of memorable shots or holes out there. No elevated tees, just continuation of the fairways with tee blocks laid down. The greens here (as others have said) are just ridiculous and not that much fun IMO. I like having the chance to roll in a few 10 footers and maybe a 20-30 footer in round, not happening here. No straight putts outside of 2-3 feet. Huge undulations and pin locations you can’t keep a ball near even with the perfect approach. Some people may like this but personally it wasn’t a place I will play again.

While the greens had been punched, they were coming back to their pristine and challenging selves. The rest of the course was fantastic. Enjoyed lunch around the pool afterward.

Great course. Always in perfect shape. It's a little wide open as the trees are still very young. But the greens are tricky and protect the course.

This is a really great course. I remember playing it when there was only a few houses built, now the course has really comes into its own.

The course itself is absolutely beautiful and showcases meticulously maintained fairways and greens that really test your skill. The greens in particular were challenging, with lots of undulation and speed, which made for a fun and memorable round. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout the day, which made the experience even better. At the turn, I had a handmade chicken salad sandwich that was fresh, flavorful, and hit the spot midround. After finishing up, I visited the Barrel House Bistro for a proper 19th hole experience, which did not disappoint. I had their wagyu burger with balsamic onion jam, smoked gouda, and bourbon brown sugar bacon, paired with truffle fries and their signature “Esplanata” cocktail. Everything was perfectly prepared and delicious. If you’re looking for a challenging, scenic course with friendly service and some of the best post-round food and drinks around, Esplanade at Azario should definitely be on your list.
