Skyview Golf Course

Hernando, Florida, USACentral Florida

Skyview Golf Course in Hernando, Florida, offers an 18-hole public layout blending parkland openness with inland links elements. Known for its wide fairways, sizable bunkers, and fast greens, it provides a balanced challenge suitable for a wide range of golfers.

Course Overview

Set in the gentle landscape of Hernando, Florida, Skyview Golf Course offers an 18-hole public layout that balances challenge with inviting playability. From the first tee, golfers are met with a course that demands thoughtful strategy yet welcomes players of various handicaps. Wide fairways sweep across lush Florida terrain, flanked by larger sand traps that test precision without punishing recovered shots. The course’s greens demand respect, boasting speed and subtle breaks that reward careful reading and delicate touch.

The layout blends classic parkland features with subtle inland links touches, creating a unique rhythm of play. Elevation changes are modest but meaningful, encouraging varied club selection and shot shapes. Water hazards appear strategically, influencing decisions off the tee and around the greens without overwhelming the overall flow. Mature trees define holes and frame vistas, providing shade and a sense of calm calmness amidst the humid Florida air.

Skyview maintains its reputation for consistent conditioning, with fairways and greens kept in remarkable shape year-round. The playing surfaces respond well to all styles of shots, making the course approachable for higher handicaps while still offering enough risk-reward elements to challenge more skilled players. The balance between wide landing zones and well-placed bunkers creates a fair test where controlled aggression often pays dividends.

The clubhouse presents a welcoming space with friendly staff attentive to player needs. While service and ambiance enhance the overall experience, players should plan ahead regarding refreshments as the bar and restaurant hours may vary seasonally. Walking the course is encouraged, with gentle slopes and well-maintained paths that accommodate players favoring a more traditional round. Proper footwear is recommended due to Florida’s occasional dampness and subtle undulations.

Skyview Golf Course is a rewarding destination for those willing to venture beyond Florida’s busier venues. Its combination of solid course conditions, strategic design elements, and scenic aspects offers a game that tests both patience and skill. Whether seeking to sharpen putting strokes on its manicured greens or navigating the course’s sandy challenges, every round here delivers value and a measure of quiet satisfaction.

Course Highlights

Skyview’s layout features expansive fairways punctuated by larger-than-average sand traps that challenge accuracy. The course combines parkland style with subtle inland links influences, offering strategic water hazards and tightly contoured greens known for their speed and break. We had the “Steak Special “ (they offer it every couple of weeks) unfortunately, everything was over salted (the bread crust, soup, potatoes) just too much to enjoy. The special comes with soup or salad, I tried the (salty swordfish and muscles) soup, along with a tough ribeye steak with peppered potatoes (a lot of pepper, black pepper). The dessert was a chunk of chocolate cake - not layered cake, just a dense dark chocolate cake-just not appealing at all. The service was good, the seating was quick …just not a very good meal!

Nice golf course, I think I played fairly well. Larger sand traps, then I'm used to. It's challenging but fair. I didn't lose any golf balls. Great group to play golf with.

We absolutely love playing here. The course is always in great shape and the layout is unmatched. Putting is extremely difficult on these greens. My reason for a three star is probably not a big deal to some but to me it is. You would think being so insanely nice and of the upper echelon it would have a cart girl but what we got me was the club house bar was closed and no drinks were available. It’s hot in Florida majority of the time so some sort of drink would be nice. Other than that everything was amazing but I’m happy I brought a bottle of water or else I would have been in some trouble.

I’ve been playing at Skyview for 2 or 3 years & it’s ALWAYS in great shape & this time was no exception. I’ve got no less than15 courses I could play within 20-30 minutes of my house but I’d rather drive the 75 minutes to Skyview knowing the course won’t be all brown, in dire need of water or that the maintenance crews won’t be cutting at 1 in the afternoon. The staff is very friendly & helpful which makes the experience all the more enjoyable. The clubhouse is as beautiful as the course & the restaurant not only provides a great view but great staff as well. Ive told many people about Skyview & when they’ve taken the ride there they couldn’t wait to thank me for telling them about such an amazing golf course. It can be a challenge but is usually quite fair with wide fairways, fast but well manicured greens & beautiful scenery.
