Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club

Clearwater, Florida, USACentral Florida

Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club in Clearwater offers a public 18-hole, links-style experience combining accessible playability with strategic challenges. Its closely laid out holes and well-maintained greens provide an enjoyable round for golfers of varying skill levels seeking a practical Florida golf option.

Course Overview

Set along the bustling corridor of McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater, Florida, Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club presents a unique challenge wrapped in approachable design. This public 18-hole course unfolds with a links-style layout where holes sit in close proximity, reminiscent of coastal golf traditions yet firmly rooted in Florida’s flat terrain. The course features a blend of par 3s, 4s, and 5s, designed to test accuracy and short game finesse over raw power alone.

Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club is often appreciated for its practical playability, making it a fitting destination for a broad range of golfers. Beginners can find forgiving fairways, while more experienced players will appreciate the strategic demands shaped by well-positioned bunkers and variable green contours. The greens themselves are maintained to provide a consistent surface—fast and nuanced, rewarding precise putting and thoughtful approach shots. The frequent repositioning of hole locations calls for careful attention to course maps during play and keeps rounds fresh.

The proximity of holes creates an intimate playing experience that can feel lively and social, although it also demands patience on busy days—the pace of play can extend beyond four hours. Golfers should plan visits during weekdays or less busy times to fully enjoy a steady rhythm without lag. Four Yamaha carts equipped for comfort support players needing assistance over the walkable terrain, though carts do not offer rain protection or extensive course visuals.

Amenities at the clubhouse include a welcoming pro shop and food services for refueling mid-round or after play. The staff often receives praise for their welcoming demeanor, making the club a place frequently recommended for visitors seeking a friendly and functional golf outing in Clearwater.

Overall, Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club stands as an accessible and cost-effective option for players aiming to sharpen their skills in a Florida setting that balances challenge, charm, and practical enjoyment. Players looking for a course that emphasizes shot-making and pace management should find plenty to engage with here.

Course Highlights

Chi Chi's is awesome! Our trio had last minute reservations and was welcomed by the staff and other golfers as well! We arent the best but we felt right at home. Be sure to bring sunblock if you're not used to then Florida Sun! The pace is important on a busy day, but what a great time we had, professional staff, and great food at half time! Awesome time, good people!

I played Chi Chi's Golf for the first time first if July 25. The course is great fun and was generally in great shape. Four of the holes were cart path only on this date due to recent rains and current maintenance projects but were still very playable. The carts were excellent, the greens had almost completely recovered from recent aeration and most rolled very well. I can't give the course a rating of 5 on this day but would have rated it more like a 4.5 if I could have done so. Will definitely play here again when I the area.

While by whole 17 I noticed a strong smell of marijuana in the area. The only visible items nearby were two red carts parked by the building. Although I have not personally witnessed any staff under the influence, I have heard similar concerns from other members. This experience makes me feel there may be some truth to their reports.

Never again! Absolutely terrible experience at CHI CHI Rodriguez Golf Course. The staff was flat-out rude from the jump—no hospitality, no courtesy, nothing. It started pouring rain while we were on hole 9, and when we went in to ask for a rain check, they basically called us liars and said they “didn’t believe us.” Unreal. To make it worse, the whole course was a swamp. Mud everywhere, zero drainage, felt like we were golfing in a bog. No irrigation system in sight—if you told me this course was built on a marsh, I’d believe it. Save your money and your time. There are plenty of other places to play that actually treat people with respect and maintain their course like they give a damn. Avoid at all costs.

The course and the greens are well taken care of and are in good condition. I had a nice time playing the variety of holes which were a good mix of challenging and more straightforward approaches. Good mix of par 3,4, and 5s. The holes are really close together like a links course and there are quite a few blind tee boxes. Everyone was backed up and close together because of how close the holes are. The pace of place is not enforced and its really slow. It took 4 hours and 30 minutes to play 18 holes as a group of 2. There were several casual groups of 4 to 8 in front and behind us. The Yamaha carts are comfortable but don't have hoods to protect your bags and clubs from rain. Also no maps of the holes on the scorecard. The position of the holes on the greens change frequently so you have to know the corresponding number for that day and use the laminated map on the cart. Overall it was decent, but too backed up for my liking. I'd recommend only playing here with a hot deal, and on a weekday when it's less busy. It's a beautiful course if you have the time and patience.

Enjoyable shorter course, played as a single while wife went shopping at the mall. Gary the starter set me up with a couple of guys. Greens were sanded, a little bumpy but fast and fair. Held good shots. Sand traps were in decent condition. Excellent value for the fee. Great place to work on tee shot accuracy and wedges. Check it out and support the foundation if in the area.
