Wyndham Rio Mar Golf Course

Río Grande, Puerto RicoCentral East Coast

Set amid Puerto Rico’s lush rainforest and coastal vistas, Wyndham Rio Mar Golf Course presents an 18-hole resort course blending tropical scenery with a versatile layout. Players will find a course that balances approachable play with strategic challenges along river and ocean-lined fairways.

Course Overview

Set against the vivid backdrop of Puerto Rico’s lush rainforest and shimmering coastline, Wyndham Rio Mar Golf Course offers an 18-hole championship layout that stretches across a dynamic landscape blending tropical foliage, mountain vistas, and ocean breezes. This resort course invites players of all levels to test their skills in a setting that balances natural beauty with thoughtful design elements. Whether you’re aiming for a leisurely round or a strategic challenge, the course unfolds with fairways framed by swaying palm trees and occasional glimpses of the nearby river and Atlantic’s sparkling surface.

The layout features a mix of open stretches and tighter corridors where elevation changes and water hazards influence club selection and shot execution. The greens vary in size and contour, rewarding precision while remaining approachable for mid- to high-handicap golfers. While some parts of the course have received critique regarding turf conditions, the broader experience of playing amid Puerto Rico’s warm climate and vibrant surroundings remains compelling.

The course’s location within the Wyndham Rio Mar Resort complex means players enjoy full access to resort amenities, including well-appointed practice facilities and convenient clubhouse services. The atmosphere on the course is relaxed yet engaging, making it an inviting destination for vacationers who want to combine recreation with the island’s natural allure. Strategic tee placements allow guests to tailor the challenge to their comfort level, and the tropical air carries a steady breeze that can subtly influence shot trajectory, urging players to adapt and read conditions carefully.

From the signature ocean-view 16th hole to the river-lined fairways, Wyndham Rio Mar Golf Course weaves together diverse golf elements that embrace its surroundings without overwhelming the golfer. Planning a visit is best timed to coincide with drier spells, as heavy rainfall can affect footing and course conditions. A round here resonates with a rhythm of nature’s contrasts – calm waters, rugged elevations, and vibrant greenery – making for an uplifting golf experience in the heart of Puerto Rico’s Central East Coast.

Course Highlights

The course is distinguished by its blend of rainforest and coastal elements, including the ocean-adjacent 16th hole and river-bordered fairways that shape shot strategy. While maintenance fluctuates with weather, the course provides a rewarding test with varied green complexes and a tropical setting rare in the region.

Beautiful property. The pools and grounds were very well maintained. The staff was always very friendly. The rooms were nice- had kitchenette. Definitely recommend renting a car, otherwise it’s hard to get to popular destinations.

Amazing resort! Everything you could ask for in a tropical paradise. The golf courses we're so beautiful, ocean, beaches, river, pools, good food all around the area, and great customer service - couldn't ask for more!

I’ll start with the price, it’s definitely high but you are paying for the views. That’s it! The course was soggy everywhere, the bunkers were like concrete, the greens did not have good quality grass so your putts bounce causing inaccurate ball rolls! The words my wife used “that place better be emaculate for that price” and unfortunately it was far from that. You’re better off playing the Grand Reserve for $225 with a $40 replay fee! Do not come to this place expecting an amazing course! Idk how this place has 4 stars.

Golf review only! Very disappointed. Been looking forward to playing here since moving to PR. Thought since it was Troon it would be in good shape but it was not! Range - bad. Greens - bad. Grass - long and fluffy. Tee boxes - very bad. Home #16 is the only ocean hole. Took a moment to enjoy the beach. But the hole was in bad shape and really long for a par 3. Staff was friendly and that was the only good thing. I don’t think I’ll play there again. Edit: I have since played here three more times lol. I honestly prefer the River Course over the Ocean. The key is to go when it’s been really hot and sunny. Too much rain and the course just floods. They’ve done a better job maintaining the course since the first time I went. Very scenic. Played the river course and all the holes you got the Yunque and the palm trees in the background. The greens are in good condition. Very friendly staff.

This course offers a fun and challenging layout with plenty to keep you engaged. The clear, tranquil river and stunning mountain backdrops add a serene, scenic touch to your round. The fairways were in decent condition, but the greens showed noticeable wear, which felt underwhelming given the steep green fee. Tee boxes could also use some attention. That said, the abundance of risk-reward holes makes for exciting gameplay, with strategic options off the tee adding a layer of thrill. A mix of beauty and challenge, though maintenance could be improved. This course versus Royal Isabela in terms of upkeep wins. And it’s a better value at almost $35 cheaper.

Great golf course but bad rental program. For $125, the course is genuinely interesting and really well maintained (especially considering the weather). The staff is friendly and the shuttle to/from the resort is basically instant. My one gripe is with the club rental program, for $75 I expect a full bag and maybe even some choices. Instead, you get 12 clubs and no real options apart from righty/lefty and stiff/senior. The clubs themselves are more than fine, they are recent Pings, but you only get 12 and not a single numbered/bladed wedge. Since the course is genuinely challenging, I really would have liked some options for wedges/woods, or at least a full set of them.
