Copper Creek Golf Course

Frisco, Colorado, USACentral Colorado

Copper Creek Golf Course offers an 18-hole alpine layout distinguished by high-elevation challenges, tight fairways, and stunning mountain views. With forced carries and fast greens, this course balances strategic demands with engaging playability in a striking mountain setting.

Course Overview

Copper Creek Golf Course offers an 18-hole championship layout that challenges and rewards golfers amid the expansive natural beauty of Frisco, Colorado. Occupying a striking mountain setting, this course delivers dramatic elevation shifts and sweeping views that heighten every stroke. At 9,863 feet above sea level, players face the unique demands high altitude imparts, where balls carry further and air feels thinner, calling for adaptive strategy and precise club selection.

Designed with both fun and challenge in mind, Copper Creek features tight fairways lined with mature pines and strategically placed bunkers that require thoughtful shot placement. Several holes incorporate steep downhill tee shots, including holes 2, 9, 14, and 18, which test distance control and patience with blind carries and forced carries across ravines or dense forest. The greens run fast and true when conditions allow, though altitude and weather may introduce subtle variations in roll.

The course’s rugged mountain character blends a parkland style with alpine terrain, providing a distinctive experience quite different from typical layouts. Golfers of all skill levels are welcomed, though low handicappers may find the narrow corridors and elevation changes particularly stimulating. The forced carries and lateral rough emphasize accuracy while presenting risk-reward opportunities, encouraging players to think beyond power shots.

Practice facilities include a netted hitting area and dedicated putting and chipping greens, offering useful warm-up options despite the absence of a full driving range. On-course amenities focus on comfort and hospitality, with a clubhouse offering dining and social spaces conducive to relaxation after a round. Walking is possible but challenging due to altitude and terrain; carts are available for those preferring ease of movement.

Copper Creek’s distinct combination of alpine scenery, strategic hole designs, and high-elevation conditions creates an engaging mountain golf destination. Its blend of challenge and playability draws seasoned players looking for variety as well as golfers seeking a memorable round in Colorado’s high country. Planning a visit here means preparing for unpredictable weather and adjusting for altitude effects, but the payoff is a golf experience both stimulating and refreshingly scenic.

Course Highlights

Copper Creek is notable for its extraordinary elevation, featuring the highest tee box in North America on hole 14 at 9,863 feet. The course’s layout demands precision with several blind and forced carries over rugged alpine terrain. Tight fairways bordered by dense pines and fast, subtly contoured greens create a layout that requires both strategic shot-making and careful course management.

What a great experience. Don’t let the (currently) 14 hole course stop you from golfing here. I’m glad I gave it a chance, and I encourage others to do the same. First, the staff was friendly and accommodating, but then who isn’t in Colorado? The starter gave me insider advice, as I had never played the course. Practice facilities consist of a netted area for irons and woods/hybrids. It’s not really set up for drivers, though. There’s a putting and chipping green, but as the starter warned me, it is not representative of the course greens, which are in better shape, and much faster. If you’re like me and not used to playing at such high elevation (Copper has the highest tee box in North America at 9863 feet!) then expect your shots to go much further than usual. It wasn’t uncommon for me to out-drive the fairway. At least three par 4 greens are reachable off the tee box. The starter was right. The greens were very fast. Overall, great round and great experience. I will definitely be back.

Wow! We had such a great time playing here. The course was well cared for and the greens were immaculate. We will definitely be coming back! Copper Creek’s golf course was designed by Golf Course Architect, Gordon Cunningham. The picturesque 18-hole championship golf course in nestled among mature trees, Iowa’s rolling hills and the beautiful homes of Copper Creek. The par 71 course was recognized in 2009 by Business Record as “One of the Best Golf Courses in Central Iowa.” Our golf course offers a unique golf experience and a challenge for golfers of all abilities. Whether you’re a “Sunday golfer” or a seasoned veteran, Copper Creek is the ideal course for everyone. Come early and take advantage of our large practice green and practice range.

Copper Creek is a surprisingly fun and interesting course. I've heard & read mixed reviews. I'd say if you're a low handicap player or a beginner, this may not be the course for you. The rating and slope numbers and yardage really don't give a great impression of the course. If you like fun, stimulating golf, this is worth a visit. The staff is friendly. Their website description is worth reading in advance if you've never played the course. One thing to note, there is no driving range. You do get to warm up hitting balls into a net off of a mat. It's weird to swing a full swing with someone in view in front of you just a few yards away...on the other side of a net. The course plays narrow with definite forced carries and plenty of lateral rough to avoid. Balls will tend to bounce right. Somewhat blind shots will challenge you. #2, 9, 14, & 18 are severely downhill to the point #9 & 18 have signs telling you to wait to tee off until the green is clear even with 264 & 415 yardages. Fwiw, #1 & 9 are less than driver tee shots if you hit average or above. Due to altitude, the grass on the greens can be challenged, so don't expect perfect rolls. The course is walkable for people who hike at altitude, but most will prefer a cart. The restaurant closes at 6p on weekdays. The 9863' tee box on #14 is supposed to be the highest tee box in North America. Cool.

Only 14 holes open due to construction, but they are beautiful! We didn’t play so well, but the down hill tee shots will help your driving distances for sure!
