Mt. Massive Golf Course
Mt. Massive Golf Course offers a rare high-altitude golf adventure with its 9-hole mountain-style layout. Known as the highest course in North America, it provides a welcoming challenge framed by sweeping views and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
Course Overview
Mt. Massive Golf Course stands out as a distinctive mountain-style layout offering players a unique challenge framed by Colorado’s breathtaking high-altitude terrain. Located in Leadville at 10,000 feet above sea level, this 9-hole course is celebrated as the highest golf course in North America. Its elevated setting affects ball flight dramatically, allowing shots to carry noticeably farther, rewarding players who master altitude adjustments in their game.
The course is public and welcoming to golfers of all experience levels. Wide fairways and modest rough make the experience approachable, while strategically placed out-of-bounds and bunkers demand thoughtful shot placement. The compact 9-hole design includes a range of tee boxes that cater to beginners eager to learn the game as well as seasoned players seeking a relaxed yet stimulating round. The terrain gently rolls and opens to expansive mountain vistas, particularly around the signature holes where panoramic views of the surrounding peaks provide an immersive outdoor experience.
Playability is enhanced by the manageable layout and forgiving conditions found throughout the course. Players benefit from generous fairways yet must navigate the occasional local breeze that tests club selection and tempo, especially with the thinner air at altitude. Golfers can rent clubs on site and enjoy additional comfort from the clubhouse grill, where hearty fare complements the crisp mountain air.
Mt. Massive Golf Course embraces a casual atmosphere that appeals to those looking for a scenic outing rather than an intensely competitive round. Walking is encouraged, weather permitting, although carts are permitted during the summer months. The course operates year-round when snow does not interfere, offering a rare opportunity to play golf amidst the Rockies.
A visit here goes beyond golf — it is a chance to engage with the natural grandeur of Colorado’s mountains while enjoying a friendly and community-oriented golfing experience. Whether you’re mastering your swing at high elevation or simply soaking up the alpine views, Mt. Massive presents a memorable day on the greens.

Don’t waste your time or money at this course. Greens keepers and front desk were losers. This is a total tourist trap. 3 people got stuck on I70 because of a fire and road closure. Front desk made the single pay for all of them. Zero understanding. The course was empty and when the single asked to play with the group in front of them front desk said absolutely not and threatened them if they were to join. The course is in horrible conditions. The greens are a joke and the tee boxes are unplayable. It’s the “highest course in the US” but the horrible design forces you to hit 8 or 9 irons off the tee boxes. Seriously don’t waste your time or money.

Great golf course! I’ve never played before but this was a great spot to go with a pretty casual atmosphere. You can rent clubs and it’s a fun course to learn on. Awesome views all around and the staff is friendly. The Grill food is pretty good as well! Worth checking out.

Marvelous "little" golf course at a decent value. Mostly basic layout with wide fairways and limited rough - a few out of bounds make it tougher. Not as difficult as I made it play !!! At 10K feet you can really see your solid drives fly an additional 30 yards. Good for the ego but, probably rather deflating when you return to only 3K or lower. Beautiful country and a great time all around. Nice folks too !!! Would love to return again.

Great course!!! Highest in North America! Wonderful experience. My first time golfing too! There are 9 holes of different lengths and difficulties. You can golf all year but can't use the golf carts past summer since there's snow. Overall great course and great prices!

What a course! The views will keep your attention. We love taking a road trip to Leadville, staying at one of hotels in town, and playing at Mount Massive. This is a fun course, and the team there does a great job. And it's such a beautiful drive to and from the Denver area!
