Morro Bay Golf Course

Morro Bay, California, USACentral Coast California

Morro Bay Golf Course carves its place along California’s cliffs with an 18-hole layout defined by scenic ocean views and rolling hills. Welcoming to all skill levels, this public course blends accessible fairways with challenging greens and a coastal breeze that shapes an engaging golfing day.

Course Overview

Morro Bay Golf Course presents an engaging challenge amid coastal California's dramatic cliffs and ocean views. This 18-hole municipal layout invites golfers of all skill levels to experience a course defined as much by its natural setting as by its playability. Rolling hills create elevation changes that influence shot selection, while the Pacific Ocean hover in the distance, lending a fresh sea breeze that tests tempo yet invigorates the senses.

The terrain demands thoughtful strategy without punishing novice players. Fairways are generally forgiving, carpeted with lush turf maintained to a high standard, encouraging a wide range of shot-making options. Greens are known for their subtle breaks and quick speeds, particularly on holes that slope toward the ocean, demanding precise distance control and keen attention to putting lines.

Hole 9 emerges as a favorite for many visitors: perched above the coastline, it offers panoramic views of the ocean, waves crashing against the bluffs below. This vantage point merges the thrill of golf with a moment to appreciate the raw beauty of California’s shoreline. The topography introduces consistent uphill and downhill lies, requiring versatile clubs and adaptability.

Morro Bay’s atmosphere is welcoming, with staff praised for their friendliness and professionalism. While the course is public and reasonably priced, its maintenance reflects a commitment to quality. The pace of play can vary, especially on busier days, so players should plan accordingly to avoid delays. Parking is limited but accessible, with the course’s compact location near the state park adding appeal for golfers combining nature and sport.

For those considering walking, sturdy shoes are advisable given the hilly layout. The refreshing coastal air can be brisk, particularly in early mornings and cooler months, which slightly affects ball flight distance. However, these conditions add character and a unique challenge to the round.

Morro Bay Golf Course offers a balance of natural beauty, challenging holes, and a friendly environment, making it an ideal stop for visitors touring California’s Central Coast or locals seeking a reliable and scenic municipal golf experience.

Fantastic course. Greens are well kept and course staff including the marshal were just incredible hospitable and courteous. The views are just magnificent! My favorite view is hole #9 where you oversee the beautiful greens and the ocean in this magnificent picture … all while playing golf. I would come back here just for the views, but I love golf too much. I can wait to come back here. I would definitely recommend this place to all my family and friends

What an amazing public course. Reminds me of Pebble Beach only much less expensive.

Very nice course. Well maintained and surprisingly reasonable compared to some of the nearby courses. Just visted on a holiday weekend and was still under $100 with a cart.

It's a very hill ocean view municipal course. All putts break towards the ocean. Friendly staff, limited parking and reasonably priced. We played Easter 2024 and it was very cold all day. Cold wet air means the ball does not travel very far.

Amazing public course. Beautiful fairways and greens. Very forgiving course. Beautiful views on pretty much every hole. Fairways are like lush carpet. Greens were fun! Only downside… the flow of play can get jam packed and slow. It boils down to golf etiquette and unfortunately, not too many folks golfing these days even know what that is. However, bottom line, it was a great course and I wish I could play it every day!! Big thanks to the crew who maintain the grounds, beautiful job 🤙🙏⛳️

Historically I've always given this place of 5-star review. Course was in relatively good shape the greens were ridiculous though. The pin positions were tough even for good golfers. This weekend played unusually slow though. 5 1/2 hour rounds are unacceptable. Outside of that the important stuff like the staff are nice people the restaurant is really good everybody hustles. Looking forward to going back
