Hunter Ranch Golf Course and Restaurant

Paso Robles, California, USACentral California

Hunter Ranch Golf Course offers an 18-hole challenge amid rolling vineyards, where strategic doglegs and fast greens test every aspect of your game. Combining natural terrain with thoughtful design, this Paso Robles layout invites players to engage with its subtle demands and enjoy a satisfying golf experience paired with a well-regarded restaurant.

Course Overview

Hunter Ranch Golf Course and Restaurant presents a compelling 18-hole layout that balances challenge with scenic variety, located in the heart of Paso Robles, California. This semi-private course spreads across rolling terrain framed by expansive vineyards, offering golfers an invigorating experience shaped by natural features rather than extravagant landscaping. The course layout emphasizes strategic shot-making with a series of doglegs, elevation changes, and forced carries, particularly on the back nine where fairways twist and sometimes disappear beyond the eye’s reach. Players will find themselves relying on course GPS for precise yardages as well as carefully judged distance control to navigate these nuanced holes.

Conditioning remains solid overall, with well-maintained, lush fairways and bunkers that stand ready to challenge approach shots. The greens consistently run firm and fast, rewarding those who master their touch on the surface. The mix of blind shots and varying angles encourages a thoughtful approach to every hole, making the course suitable for players who enjoy strategic thinking but can be demanding for high handicaps if not played with care.

Off the course, the accompanying restaurant provides a relaxed atmosphere where players can unwind with views of the vineyards. Many praise the club sandwich and attentive service as a satisfying reward after a round. Though some recent feedback mentions uneven tee boxes and occasional staff inconsistency, most players appreciate the overall quality and setting the course offers.

Walking is encouraged for those looking to fully engage with the terrain and personal game rhythm, but golf carts are available to accommodate convenience and stamina. A round here requires mental focus and an adaptable game, making Hunter Ranch a rewarding stop for golfers visiting Paso Robles or locals who want a test beyond the usual.

For anyone planning a visit, consider bringing GPS-supported devices or renting one from the pro shop to navigate the course’s trickier holes. Timing your round to avoid peak midday heat adds comfort, while sturdy shoes help with the course’s elevation changes and uneven surfaces. Hunter Ranch Golf Course combines landscape-driven design with a practical golf challenge set against the inviting backdrop of California’s central wine country.

First time playing Hunter Ranch and the course is challenging. The back nine is a little quirky with blind shots and fairways that run out. Definitely pay attention to the GPS on the tiny screen to figure out your line. Pro shop and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful for this first timer. Greens are firm and fast.

Nice staff. Cool club house and nice practice facilities. Greens are very good! Only reason for the 4 stars is the back nine. It’s just tricked up and you feel like they tried to fit holes in to finish the course.

This place is awesome. Was a bit skeptical of the green fees but quickly realized they’re worth it as the greens are running PURE, bunkering is well maintained, and fairways are lush. Add in the thoughtful course design by a fairly renowned architect and you have a beautiful golf course.

Started going to hunter ranch again and it’s gone way downhill. Tee boxes are always trashed and uneven, the greens are always full of ball marks fairways are about the only good part. And all the times I’ve went the staff has been rude and or not very pleasant. And they complain about me RENTING a kart and always tell me they can’t keep doing that blah blah blah at a golf course for an hour to go hit some balls to go down to the driving range. So I’m glad I didn’t become a member. Have the day you deserve.

Surrounded by vineyards, this is a nicely designed challenging course, especially the back 9 holes where there are quite a few force carries and dog legged challenges. Condition was reasonably good in most holes. The restaurant also made a really delicious club sandwich!
