Course Overview

Situated just off the scenic California coastline in Monterey, Del Monte Golf Course presents a classic 18-hole layout that blends coastal charm with a player-friendly experience. This public course offers an inviting environment for golfers seeking a round without the complexity of Pebble Beach’s famed landscape, while still providing enough challenge to keep more skilled players engaged. Its design features lush fairways bordered by towering pines and gentle undulations, creating an atmosphere that offers both tranquility and focus. Although the course is relatively straightforward, its greens demand precision. Featuring subtle breaks and slopes, the putting surfaces require careful attention to speed and line, often testing even experienced players in their short game.

The course yardage stretches to approximately 6,500 yards, with a par of 71, establishing a moderate length suitable for a wide range of skill levels. The terrain holds an open feel without penalizing overly harsh hazards, making it approachable for novices but still offering strategic shot-making opportunities for more accomplished golfers. A steady coastal breeze adds an additional variable that influences club selection and shot purpose, ensuring each round carries a fresh element.

Amenities at Del Monte include a well-appointed clubhouse with basic dining and rental facilities. Players can expect friendly and knowledgeable staff ready to assist, while a roaming cart service on the course provides snacks and drinks to keep energy levels up through 18 holes. Rental clubs and a practice area are available, making it convenient for visitors traveling light. Walkers find the course manageable due to gentle elevation changes and well-maintained cart paths, though sturdy footwear is encouraged given occasional dampness from coastal fog.

Though overshadowed by its more famous neighbors, Del Monte carries historical significance as one of Monterey’s original courses, adding a layer of nostalgia for returning players. Its balance of scenic coastal views, steady challenges, and accessible setup make it a dependable choice for those looking to experience Monterey golf at a fair price. Timed right, morning rounds often provide calm conditions and soft light, amplifying the natural beauty without interfering with play pace.

Whether you are seeking a relaxed round with friends or a practical test of your short game, Del Monte Golf Course offers a genuine slice of Monterey’s golf heritage with a pragmatic edge.

Coming from the Central Valley, it was a great experience playing on the coast. The fairways were lush and the greens were challenging. The design of this course doesn’t bring you back to the clubhouse after 9 holes like most courses. They have a cart roaming around with food onboard, but if you want something she doesn’t have, the order must go through her (that’s what I was told) so just plan for that.

Easy on fairways but tough on greens, is what I will summarize my playing at Del Monte. It's really a nice course, the fairways and greens are all well maintained, one thing is that their greens are all slopes, so you either putt incline or decline, need to be very accurate on the speed, otherwise you will easily get 3 putts.

Played here Sunday, May 18th…. First the positive… greens are great. Now, no GPS on golf carts is an absolute insult even though I use a rangefinder it would be nice to be able to see how some of the holes flow, also a lot of the holes seem exactly the same. They need to move the 17th green it’s literally 5 yards away from patio of Hyatt Regency. Would not play here again.

I played this course back in the 80’s and had good memories of my time so long ago and retuning all these years later it was nice to see my memories of this course were still true. It’s a well maintained and beautiful course in the heart of Monterey. The course is moderately challenging with really speedy greens, as many reviews have mentioned. The staff was friendly and efficient and the pace of play was great for us with a 2:00 tee time on a Tuesday. I look forward to returning again and I won’t wait so long this time…

Nice and old golf course. Very narrow fairway and small green but well maintained and fast green. I hope they can put golf GPS on golf cart.

It’s much cheaper than the main pebble beach course but of-course much more straightforward and easier. It was damp and the ball didn’t roll so wasn’t able to get good distance. We rented clubs from them. Overall very scenic Mountain Views. Staff are very friendly especially Donn who took care of us. It was approx 100 per head for twilight hour starting at 3.30pm that included green fees, cart and rental clubs. Balls you have to buy from the shop. The great thing about this course is its history.
