Raven Golf Club

Snowshoe, West Virginia, USACentral Appalachian Mountains

Raven Golf Club blends mountain terrain with a challenging 18-hole layout defined by sharp elevation shifts and narrow, tree-lined fairways. Offering spectacular views and a testing round for mid- to low-handicap players, this course demands precision and strategy amid its Appalachian surroundings.

Course Overview

Set amid the rugged terrain of Snowshoe, West Virginia, Raven Golf Club offers an 18-hole mountain golf experience defined by dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views. This semi-private layout challenges players with its narrow fairways sculpted into the Appalachian landscape, demanding precision off the tee and thoughtful strategy on approach shots. The course meanders through valleys and ridges, where every hole presents a fresh challenge shaped by natural contours and forested surroundings.

Golfers will find the elevation shifts test club selection and shot execution, as downhill drives open the course while uphill approaches require careful distance control. A handful of elevated tees provide sweeping vistas of the surrounding mountains, rewarding high tees with striking photographic moments and the chance to bomb drives in open air. Tight, tree-lined fairways border most holes, pressing players to find the narrower corridors amid the mountain terrain.

Raven Golf Club’s greens are known to be fast yet fair, demanding steady putting and good reads to avoid three-putts. The course tends to favor mid- to low-handicap golfers comfortable with a precise ball flight, though shorter tee options ensure that competent players of various skill levels can enjoy the challenge. With no GPS on carts, players are encouraged to study yardage charts or use smartphone apps to navigate the course’s complex elevation changes.

The pro shop and clubhouse serve as convenient hubs after play, with a well-stocked bar and friendly staff who help keep the day running smoothly. Range facilities and practice areas allow for warm-ups before teeing off, ideal considering the demanding nature of the mountain layout. Wildlife sightings, including deer and turkeys, add a quiet sense of wilderness to the round, enhancing the overall experience.

Visitors should prepare for the mountain environment by bringing appropriate footwear for walks that include uphill and downhill sections. Summer rounds often offer cooler temperatures relative to surrounding areas, while fall colors make autumn rounds particularly scenic. Raven Golf Club rewards those willing to embrace the mountain’s natural challenges with a memorable day of golf in a striking setting.

Course Highlights

Raven Golf Club is distinguished by its extensive elevation changes and tight fairways framed by dense Appalachian forest. Elevated tees offer some of the best views in the region, while wildlife sightings frequently punctuate play. The course’s layout encourages strategic shot-making over brute force, making it a rewarding experience for precise golfers. Absence of GPS on carts can add to the challenge, encouraging players to stay engaged with yardage and course management.

awesome course in the mountains. was only 81 degrees while the courses back home in virginia were well into the 90s. I Def recommend you download the app in clubhouse so you can get distances. the guy at the counter should have suggested it but he seemed like he had a brain injury.... not really but slow and minimal help considering he knows 90% of players must be vacationing. course has some epic elevated tee boxes allowing for awesome views and absolute bombs... especially 4 and 9. we saw plenty of deer which we expected. was a great time. course is pretty tight just like any mountain course due to fairways being built into hills and surrounded by valleys on both sides. I'll Def be golfing there again!

The golf staff is great, greens fairways, and rough all excellent. tee boxes and traps are terrible. on Wednesday Kat at the snack bar was pleasant and helpful. Thursday male? name was a snob. we ate after golf on Wednesday club sandwich was great. Thursday we did not eat because of the man's demeanor at the counter. will come back when a better route is available.

This was a great mountain course. Spectacular scenery. This would be unbelievable in the fall with the leaves changing. Lots of elevation change. Beautiful condition. Bring lots of golf balls if you can't hit it straight. No GPS on carts. Decent range. Nice pro shop and bar area. A little difficult to get to but worth the trip.
