Raven Golf Club

Snowshoe, West Virginia, USACentral Appalachia

Raven Golf Club presents an 18-hole mountain challenge where elevation changes and forest-lined fairways test precision amid spectacular Appalachian vistas. Ideal for disciplined players seeking a rugged yet accessible round surrounded by native wildlife and pristine scenery.

Course Overview

Perched high in the rugged mountains of Snowshoe, West Virginia, Raven Golf Club offers a compelling blend of challenging play and panoramic natural beauty. This 18-hole championship course demands precise shot-making across its thoughtfully designed layout, weaving through dramatic elevation changes that define its mountain terrain. The fairways carve into the hillsides with tight corridors hugged by thick forest, requiring well-controlled drives and strategic approach shots. Ball flight takes on an added dimension as altitude and wind converge, inviting players to engage deeply with the course’s dynamic environment.

Raven Golf Club feels alive with its wild surroundings, where deer, turkeys, and sometimes even bears weave through the landscape, making each round a vivid encounter with the Appalachian wilderness. Elevated tee boxes reveal sweeping vistas that shift with every hole, rewarding those who pause to appreciate the scenery between shots. The greens are generally smooth yet guarded by well-placed bunkers that test putting precision, while some holes feature tricky slopes that can turn a promising round upside down.

Despite its mountainous setting, the course remains accessible to players with varied skill levels. While low handicappers will relish the risk-reward opportunities and demanding shots along constricted fairways, the layout accommodates less experienced golfers through multiple tee options. Walkers will find the terrain invigorating but rugged; sturdy shoes and a reasonable fitness level are advisable to navigate slopes and elevation shifts comfortably. Cart paths are available but can be limited in some uphill stretches.

The clubhouse provides a welcoming atmosphere after a round, with a pro shop stocked with essentials and a bar area that serves as a comfortable gathering spot. While the course’s remote location calls for careful planning, the combination of striking mountain views, well-maintained conditions, and engaging holes offers a memorable mountain golf experience. Raven Golf Club challenges the body and sharpens the mind, positioning itself as a standout destination for those seeking golf beyond the ordinary while surrounded by nature’s grandeur.

Course Highlights

The course’s defining traits include elevated tee boxes offering stunning mountain views, fairways tightly framed by native forest, and the presence of local wildlife such as deer and turkeys along the course edges. Signature holes like the par-4 4th and 9th feature challenging elevation swings and narrow landing areas that test accuracy and course management. A thoughtful routing embraces natural landforms rather than reshaping them, making the terrain itself a key strategic element.

This was a great mountain course. Spectacular scenery. This would be unbelievable in the fall with the leaves changing. Lots of elevation change. Beautiful condition. Bring lots of golf balls if you can't hit it straight. No GPS on carts. Decent range. Nice pro shop and bar area. A little difficult to get to but worth the trip.

awesome course in the mountains. was only 81 degrees while the courses back home in virginia were well into the 90s. I Def recommend you download the app in clubhouse so you can get distances. the guy at the counter should have suggested it but he seemed like he had a brain injury.... not really but slow and minimal help considering he knows 90% of players must be vacationing. course has some epic elevated tee boxes allowing for awesome views and absolute bombs... especially 4 and 9. we saw plenty of deer which we expected. was a great time. course is pretty tight just like any mountain course due to fairways being built into hills and surrounded by valleys on both sides. I'll Def be golfing there again!

The golf staff is great, greens fairways, and rough all excellent. tee boxes and traps are terrible. on Wednesday Kat at the snack bar was pleasant and helpful. Thursday male? name was a snob. we ate after golf on Wednesday club sandwich was great. Thursday we did not eat because of the man's demeanor at the counter. will come back when a better route is available.
