Course Overview

Ol’ Colony Golf Complex in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, offers a distinguished 18-hole championship layout that blends tradition with a competitive edge. As the home course for the University of Alabama golf team, it draws a mix of collegiate talent and local enthusiasts seeking a challenge in a setting that demands thoughtful shot-making. The course unfolds through gently rolling terrain, punctuated by well-kept fairways and greens that reward precision. While not a coastal or mountain design, Ol’ Colony’s parkland style emphasizes strategic play over raw power, with bunkers and water hazards positioned to test decision-making throughout the round.

The playing surface presents firm yet receptive conditions when maintained to standard, allowing controlled approaches and putting that can make or break scoring. The course plays off a variety of tees to accommodate different skill levels, making it approachable for mid- to low-handicap players hungry for challenge without losing accessibility. Walkers will appreciate the mostly moderate terrain, though sturdy footwear is recommended given some uneven spots and natural underfoot texture.

Though a public course, Ol’ Colony operates with a focus on quality conditioning and service. Facilities include a full-service clubhouse with a pro shop, practice range, and short game area, making it a fully equipped venue for preparation and post-round relaxation. The staff is widely praised for their professionalism and attentiveness, contributing to an inviting atmosphere that encourages repeat visits.

Significant holes include those that incorporate water hazards with subtle elevation changes, demanding careful club selection and course management. The 16th hole, a par 3 with a water carry to a well-guarded green, epitomizes Ol’ Colony’s balance of risk and reward. For golfers planning a trip, early morning tee times can offer cooler temperatures and smoother greens, while afternoon rounds may present slightly firmer conditions.

Overall, Ol’ Colony Golf Complex provides a solid, thoughtfully designed test of golf in the heart of Tuscaloosa. Players seeking well-kept conditions paired with a competitive layout will find ample reasons to return, whether chasing personal bests or enjoying a challenging day on the links.

Fantastic golf course! Service was excellent from the people working in the club house, the starter, and cart girl. Greens were rolling well and in great shape. Will be back to Ol Colony for sure and highly recommend.

Too many negatives to list. Course is in bad shape from tee box to green. Dry as a bone, drill is required to get a tee in the ground on some boxes. Same your time and money, take a short drive to Birmingham for golf and you’ll thank me later

This is a beautiful, well manicured golf course with spectacular views that we had the pleasure of playing while in town from Ohio. The staff was extremely polite and professional, and if we return in the future, we'll definitely be making a reservation to play here again. Highly recommend Ol' Colony!!

Called in and asked them what time the driving range was opening and was told 10 am. I showed up at 10 am and had to wait until 10:45 for them to open it up finally.
