Limestone Springs Golf Club

Oneonta, Alabama, USACentral Alabama

Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, Alabama, presents a public 18-hole course that balances rugged natural features and smooth, recently renovated greens. Its rolling elevations and strategic layout provide an engaging challenge for golfers seeking variety in a welcoming setting.

Course Overview

Limestone Springs Golf Club offers an 18-hole public layout that challenges and welcomes players across all skill levels. Located in Oneonta, Alabama, this course unfolds through rolling terrain punctuated by significant elevation changes that add strategic depth to every tee shot and approach. The fairways are generous in spots but demand accuracy where the hills squeeze the landing areas, giving the course a subtly rugged personality. Recent renovations to the greens have elevated their quality, presenting smooth, fast surfaces that respond well to precision shots and thoughtful putting. While some fairways are still maturing, their plush nature complements the overall playing conditions.

The course meshes traditional southern hill country style with natural features, where limestone outcroppings come into view as a distinctive element of the landscape. The terrain shifts invite players to adjust their strategy hole by hole, whether navigating downhill par 4s or testing recovery shots from uneven lies. Four holes enforce cart-path-only play, emphasizing the course’s focus on preserving key areas and encouraging walking where possible. For those who choose to walk, sturdy footwear is advisable given the elevation changes and some rugged footing around the practice areas.

Practice facilities include a well-maintained driving range and putting green, although the chipping area currently requires attention. The club thoughtfully provides modern carts equipped with GPS, though players should prepare for occasional restrictions that may limit fairway driving on select holes.

Throughout your round, the quiet beauty of Limestone Springs presents itself in wide-open southern skies and tree-lined passages that shape the route. While the course demands careful shot selection, it remains approachable and inviting, making it a favorite for locals and visitors seeking a solid golf experience without pretense. Service staff are friendly and attentive to player needs, contributing to an atmosphere that blends challenge with enjoyment. Limestone Springs Golf Club is a proving ground where nature’s rises and falls sculpt not only the landscape but the game itself.

Greens redone a couple years ago, the greens have to be one of the best in the state. Bunkers were also redone. Fairways are ok, a few fairways need to fill in and have tough time. Cart path only for 3, 8, 10, and 11 (non par 3s). Overall, great course and fantastic layout.

This course is one of the most beautiful in the state, but for $100 on Friday-Sunday I have some serious concerns. First of all, they don’t take cash anymore. Kinda weird but whatever. The chipping green practice area is in such terrible shape I almost couldn’t even find it when looking for it amongst the other big patches of untended mountainside grasses. There are no cart/service employees out on the course to offer refreshments during your round, which is maybe a little far fetched of me to expect but I paid $100 so I don’t think it’s too crazy of an expectation at that price. The staff didn’t mention anything about cart path only and there weren’t any signs out, however the GPS on the cart did notify me on a few holes that I couldn’t deviate from the path, however this was a total lie and it’s as if the staff just didn’t update their system for the day because just about every hole would geo-lock me out of my cart despite their being no warnings about staying on the cart path. I literally had 1 hole my entire round that I could drive on the fairway, and there were maybe only 5 holes that had a notification telling me that I couldn’t leave the path. I might as well have just walked my round at that point. The staff are friendly and the course is beautiful, but for the price… I expected a lot more. I hope they get it together soon.

Beautiful course. Greens are soft and but roll good and consistent. Fairways are well kept and plush. Scenery is fantastic and the carts are very nice. The practice area is great too. I played recently and have booked multiple tee times afterward. It truly is a hidden gem and one of the nicer public courses ive played.

5 hour 45 minute round. Stay in BHM and play. Not worth $99 either. $65 course at best.

A challenging, but enjoyable course! The condition has really improved from the last time I played it about 3 years ago!

First time I’ve ever played the course, it’s a great course just tucked away and fun. Big elevation changes which makes tee shots way tighter and the greens are in great shape along with fully grown in fairways in the start of may!

I've played this course numerous times over the years. This is the first time I've played this course since it was renovated. The greens and the fairways are in top condition. The layout and the scenery are great. This is easily one of my favorite courses.
