RTJ Golf Trail at Highland Oaks

Dothan, Alabama, USACentral Alabama

RTJ Golf Trail at Highland Oaks offers a dynamic 27-hole layout across three distinct nine-hole courses featuring varied elevations and parkland styling. Its accessible yet challenging terrain caters to a broad range of golfers, complemented by modern amenities such as GPS carts and well-maintained practice facilities.

Course Overview

RTJ Golf Trail at Highland Oaks in Dothan, Alabama, presents an engaging challenge for golfers seeking a well-rounded experience amid lush, rolling terrain. This 27-hole facility is composed of three distinctive nine-hole courses—Magnolia, Marshwood, and Highland—each offering a varied test that balances strategic shot-making with accessible play for different skill levels. The layout leans toward a parkland style, where fairways flow through gentle elevations framed by mature pine and hardwood trees, creating a serene environment that demands both accuracy and thoughtful club selection.

The Highland course stands out as the centerpiece, known for its combination of tight fairways and elevated greens that require precision approaches. Elevation changes are a consistent element across all three nines, challenging players to adapt their swings and gauge distances carefully. Bunkers are strategically placed not only to catch errant drives but also to guard the greens, adding a tactical layer that keeps rounds engaging from the first tee to the final putt.

With multiple tee boxes, RTJ Golf Trail at Highland Oaks is approachable for beginners while still offering a demanding layout for low handicappers. The practice facilities, including a well-maintained driving range and short game area, provide excellent preparation for rounds or honing specific skills between visits.

Modern amenities complement the course design, including GPS-equipped carts that help navigate blind shots and the rolling terrain. The clubhouse offers a welcoming atmosphere with a pro shop stocked with the essentials and a restaurant serving casual fare, rounding out the golf day experience.

Situated at 904 Royal Parkway, the course delivers an easily accessible destination within Central Alabama's golf scene. Whether venturing out for a solo round or a family outing, players will find Highland Oaks inviting yet testing, with its thoughtful blend of natural contours and player-friendly infrastructure. Visiting golfers should plan for comfortable walking shoes if opting to traverse on foot, given the undulating landscape. Carts enhance movement but do not detract from the opportunity to engage closely with the course’s natural rhythm.

Overall, RTJ Golf Trail at Highland Oaks is a refreshing blend of challenge and charm, perfect for golfers who appreciate a variety of layouts without sacrificing quality or pace of play.

Amazingly beautiful, well kept course. Great facilities, great carts. Very scenic and worth the money. I have visited one other RTJ course, they are all beautiful. I hope to visit the rest.

This is easily my favorite course. It's worth the drive from Panama City. I love that they have three nine hole courses so you can switch up your round of 18 a little. The Highland course is my personal favorite, but all 3 have something unique to offer. Everything is excellent here. Friendly staff, the starters are helpful and knowledgeable, beautiful club house, nice practice area, well stocked pro shop, the carts are in great shape with built in GPS and Bluetooth, the tee boxes and fairways are always in great shape, and the greens are beautiful, very fast, and challenging. It's tough course, but there's plenty of tee boxes for different skill levels. I always have an absolute blast whether it's a solo round or with my son and can't wait to come back again.

We've visited all 11 RTJ Trail sites and this one is very nice. We played Marshwood/Magnolia on a Tuesday morning. The Staff were very friendly and the course was in fantastic condition per usual for the Trail. The greens had just been sanded but, they were rolled out tight so they were much quicker and actually ran very true. The Starter was fantastic and very friendly. We enjoyed talking with him before teeing off. We found the fairways to be much wider than other Trail courses but, the greens were smaller. The only negative thing was the breakfast we tried to get before our tee time. We ordered what was supposed to be oatmeal with fruit/berries and they charged $ 7.00 for a small bowl of what amounted to a pouch of instant oats with no berries. The breakfast burrito was also cold. Very disappointing for us. We travel all over the State to visit RTJ sites and have had better food services.

I played Marshwood/Magnolia on April 28, 2025 traveling through. Course was in great shape. Sand was still pretty evident on the greens but they rolled great. 12 handicap and shot 84 from the Orange tees. Really friendly staff. Starter was extremely helpful and let me play through a threesome on the first tee. Pay attention to the GPS for your blind tee shots to know where your landing area is. Lots of elevated greens so easy to hit the green and roll off. Would definitely play again.
