Lake Placid Club

Lake Placid, New York, USAAdirondacks

Set in the Adirondacks, Lake Placid Club’s 18-hole private course challenges golfers with steep elevation changes and expansive mountain views. Stretching over 7,000 yards, it demands strategic play amid scenic surroundings that reward both precision and adaptability.

Course Overview

Carved into the Adirondack foothills, Lake Placid Club offers a distinctive golfing experience defined by its elevation changes and sweeping mountain vistas. This private, 18-hole course blends traditional parkland elements with the natural contours of a hilly landscape, inviting players to navigate a layout where every shot requires thoughtful strategy and precise execution. The course’s undulating fairways and sloping greens challenge golfers to consider stance and lie carefully, while the Adirondacks frame each hole with an expansive backdrop that shifts with the seasons.

Designed to test a broad range of skills, the Lake Placid Club plays to a par of 72 and stretches over 7,000 yards from the back tees. More than physical length, the course demands attention to shot placement and club selection amid varied elevation. This terrain variation compels use of a golf cart for many, as walking can be strenuous but rewarding for those prepared with sturdy shoes and a steady pace.

Beyond the course itself, the club’s amenities complement a refined experience. The well-appointed clubhouse provides comfortable spaces to regroup, with knowledgeable staff enhancing every visit through attentive service and local insight. Though private, the club welcomes members who appreciate a balance of friendly play and authentic challenge in a unique natural setting.

The Lake Placid Club does not rely on manufactured hazards; instead, its bunkers and water features are positioned to accentuate the land’s natural strengths. Signature holes take advantage of panoramic views and subtle elevation shifts, offering moments where golf feels intimately tied to its environment. Players should prepare for a demanding round where winds from the mountain valleys test tempo and focus.

Seasonal conditions influence playability, with summer and early fall providing the optimal window for the course’s excellent turf and scenic splendor. Whether tackling the course for the first time or returning for another round, Lake Placid Club presents a compelling blend of rugged topography and classic golf traditions housed in one of New York’s most striking settings.

Course Highlights

The course is distinguished by its significant elevation shifts that reveal panoramic views of the Adirondack mountains. Bunkers and water hazards integrate naturally with the rugged terrain rather than dominate it. Signature holes include those that test uphill shots into greens framed by the valley, demanding precisely controlled approaches. The design encourages thoughtful shot-shaping and course management, appealing to players who appreciate both physical and mental challenges.

These are the courses to play while you’re in town! I’d say start with the Links Course but the Mountain Course is great as well.

Played the mountain course. Pros: very quiet and pace of play was never a problem, beautiful scenic views overlooking the mountains and the ski jump on nearly every hole, great greens Cons: very much a tourist vacation style golf course with $95 greens fees with tee boxes and fairways that left something to be desired. Fairways were very bumpy in conjunction with very old golf carts made for a very rough ride Nicely laid out course but be aware the the 9th hole doesn’t end at the club house and no bathrooms along the way

Went here in May of 2019 and it was a very beautiful course! It’s quite hilly, so I would recommend that you use a cart. The design was very interesting and challenging. There was awesome scenery throughout the entire round and the grounds were pretty well kept even early in the year. This course was designed by the same man who designed Augusta National, where the Masters are held every year. Over all it’s a great course with a great clubhouse and I will definitely be back!

Incredible course! I played the Mountain course and was amazed by the views of the valley and the course is very well maintained. The cart paths could use some work but definitely worth a round. Not too Challenging for the average player but definitely difficult with a lot of the slopes. Tons of fun!

A mower was very rude to a member of our party. When addressed to management we received quite a condescending response. The greens were very slow as well.

I had the oppurtunity to photograph a wedding here over the Summer and to say the views are gorgeous is an understatement! With a 180 view of the Adirondack mountains as the backdrop, it was amazing. I would not hesitate to recommend this venue, especially with the knowledgable and helpful staff.

Great staff, knowledgeable and friendly, beautiful course(s). Bring your clubs next time, do the Lake Placid trifecta- fly fishing, golf, and a mountain hike. Amazing.
