High Peaks Golf Course

Newcomb, New York, USAAdirondack Region

High Peaks Golf Course in Newcomb, NY offers a thoughtfully maintained 9-hole mountain layout within the Adirondack Park. Its challenging par-33 design and sweeping views make it an appealing stop for nature-focused golfers seeking a peaceful yet engaging round.

Course Overview

High Peaks Golf Course offers a distinctive golfing experience set deep within the Adirondack Park in Newcomb, New York. This intimate 9-hole layout, playing to a par of 33, challenges players with a unique blend of four par-3s, four par-4s, and a solitary par-5. While it might be modest in size, the course’s rugged mountain surroundings and carefully maintained fairways create an environment that both inspires and tests golfers.

The style of the course leans into its natural mountain setting rather than traditional design tropes. Elevation changes and wide-open views of the High Peaks range come into focus with every hole, offering clear vistas that occasionally bring in wind that can influence shot selection and club choice. The greens are well-kept, presenting subtle breaks that reward steady putting, while bunkers strategically guard the approach to several pins. Although the tee boxes could benefit from a touch more refinement, the overall maintenance ensures a fair and enjoyable round.

This course appeals largely to players who appreciate nature’s role in the game and those seeking a refreshing alternative to conventional parkland or coastal designs. The course pace allows golfers to soak in the surroundings, providing moments of quiet reflection amidst towering pines and mountain views. Walkers will find firm footing, but given the elevation shifts and natural terrain, sturdy shoes and a moderate level of fitness are recommended.

Facilities are straightforward, reflecting the course’s emphasis on golf rather than luxury amenities. Pricing remains very reasonable, making it accessible for casual players and families looking for an Adirondack day out. The friendly clubhouse staff adds to the welcoming atmosphere, rounding out a visit that feels authentic and unhurried.

For anyone seeking golf that marries nature with the sport itself, High Peaks delivers a memorable and distinctly regional experience where the mountains play as much a role in the game as the clubs in your hands.

Course Highlights

Set within the Adirondack Park, High Peaks Golf Course offers expansive mountain views framing each hole and a rugged layout that highlights natural elevation changes. The course’s unusual 9-hole par-33 arrangement creates an engaging rhythm, blending a variety of scoring opportunities. Well-maintained greens and fairways underscore the dedication to condition, while the surrounding wilderness amplifies the sense of escape.

Started out with an 11 on hole 1 🤦‍♂️. Had a bad case of the shanks but was able to recover and went +3 for the remaining 8. This is only a 9 hole course, and kind of a weird 9 holes at that (par 33, 4 par 3’s, 4 par 4’s, and 1 par 5), but I didn’t really mind that. Was pretty fun with all the par 3’s actually. You have to take in consideration this course is basically smack dab in the middle of the Adirondack Park. That being said, I was EXTREMELY IMPRESSED by the conditions. Hats off to the grounds crew! Fairways were in great shape. Greens were pristine. Tee boxes could use a little love, but that’s just me being a little picky. They were nice and level for the most part but could have been mown a little shorter. Lastly, the views.. Just wow! Every hole is pretty and you get some really nice views of a few of the high peaks to the north. I had a ‘soul healing’ feeling just from the beauty around me while here.. I never really leave reviews, but felt I had to here. Definitely worth it and reasonable ($25 for 9 with cart). I will most certainly be back to get my revenge on hole 1! 🤪🏌️‍♂️

This place is pure. If they had 9 more holes they could host championship golf. Wow; one of my best golf experiences of the year last year and I can’t wait to play in a few days. You got the nature and the remoteness and the dedicated maintenance. Lot to like here.

It was 91° and the winds really picked up and started a constant gust(a storm was brewing further North. The course was beautiful and very well kept.Greens were in great shape. With the wind it was really tough and unforgiving.Looking forward to going back on a cooler day as the heat index was very high.Price is very reasonable. 9 holes with cart was $30. Friendly woman worked the desk too.

Just played this course and the views in October were fantastic! The course is unique and one of the greatest places to play golf. It’s truly an Adirondack experience. I’ve played golf all over the US and on the islands and this is one of my favorites. My grandson played with me and that made this day special.
