About Blood Mountain Wilderness

Blood Mountain Wilderness, located within the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia, covers over 7,800 acres of rugged, mountainous terrain. It is one of Georgia’s most visited wilderness areas, largely due to the prominence of Blood Mountain, the highest peak on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia at 4,458 feet. Blood Mountain offers expansive views of the Appalachian Mountains and surrounding forests, particularly from its summit. The wilderness is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including hardwood forests and potential sightings of black bears. Recreational opportunities abound with the Appalachian Trail and Duncan Ridge Trail slicing through its heart, providing access to stunning ridgelines and forested paths. Historically, the area has been significant to the Cherokee and Creek Peoples, known for its dense forests and pristine nature. A sanctuary for outdoor adventurers, the wilderness offers hiking, backcountry camping, and wildlife viewing experiences in a relatively untouched environment.
