Chattooga River Wild & Scenic River

Flowing for approximately 57 miles along the borders of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, the Chattooga River is one of the premier Wild & Scenic Rivers in the United States. This protected waterway is renowned for its picturesque gorges, dense forests, and exhilarating rapids. Prominent in history, the river was an important site for the Cherokee people and later became notable for its designation as a Wild & Scenic River in 1974, a status which aims to preserve its free-flowing condition, water quality, and outstanding natural environment.
