About Moreau Lake State Park

Moreau Lake State Park spans over 2,700 acres in Saratoga County, New York, situated along the Hudson River corridor near the Adirondack foothills. The park features a large glacial lake—Moreau Lake—which is the centerpiece for water-based activities such as swimming, fishing, and paddle sports. The mixed hardwood forests, wetlands, and rocky outcrops provide habitat for diverse wildlife including white-tailed deer, beavers, and numerous bird species. Originally acquired by the state in the 1960s, the park was developed to offer both year-round recreational opportunities and natural preservation. Hikers can explore over 20 miles of interconnected trails that range from easy nature strolls to more challenging routes featuring scenic overlooks with views of the Hudson River and the surrounding foothills. Winter visitors enjoy snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, while summer brings camping in well-maintained sites that accommodate tents and RVs. The park’s design emphasizes a balance between outdoor adventure and peaceful nature experiences, making it a popular destination for families, birdwatchers, and paddlers. Moreau Lake State Park is also recognized for its well-kept amenities including a beach area, boat launches, picnic sections, and a visitor contact station that provides maps and interpretive information. Located near the city of Saratoga Springs, the park provides easy access to both natural immersion and local cultural attractions.
