About Carmel River State Beach

Carmel River State Beach is located on the central coast of California, just south of the scenic town of Carmel-by-the-Sea. This coastal park is known for its diverse habitats, including a lagoon formed at the mouth of the Carmel River, as well as sandy beaches and rocky headlands. The area is a haven for birdwatchers, as the rich estuary supports a variety of waterfowl and shorebirds. Historically, the area was home to the Rumsen Ohlone tribe and later explored by Spanish settlers in the 18th century. Today, visitors can enjoy not only the natural beauty and wildlife, but also activities such as kayaking, beachcombing, and scuba diving. The main attraction is the stunning view of the Pacific Ocean, with Point Lobos visible in the distance, offering an unparalleled backdrop for photography and relaxation.
