About Mirror Lake Scenic Byway

The Mirror Lake Scenic Byway traverses the heart of the Uinta Mountains in northern Utah. This 42-mile stretch of highway connects Kamas, Utah, with the Wyoming state line, climbing over Bald Mountain Pass at an elevation of 10,715 feet. The byway is known for its spectacular alpine scenery, which includes dense forests, sparkling lakes, and rugged peaks. Offering a range of recreational opportunities, the byway is popular among hikers, campers, and anglers. Mirror Lake itself is a highlight, providing a serene spot for fishing and picnicking. The area is rich in history, with evidence of Native American use as hunting grounds and early settlers using the route for timber harvesting. Today, visitors can enjoy well-maintained campgrounds, trails ranging from easy walks to challenging hikes, and the chance to see wildlife such as moose and bear. The byway is especially beautiful during the fall, when autumn colors illuminate the landscape.
