The preserve spans across wooded areas and features striking topography that leads to scenic views of the Potomac River. The 336-acre preserve is home to diverse ecosystems, from rocky hillsides and meandering streams to vibrant wildflower fields. Historically, it was part of a large tract owned by entrepreneur Edward B. Burling in the early 20th century before being passed to the Fairfax County Park Authority to preserve its natural state. Recreational opportunities abound, with several trails catering to casual strollers and adventurous hikers.
