About Florence Nature Preserve

Florence Nature Preserve, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, is a 600-acre haven for nature lovers and outdoor adventurers. It features a variety of terrains, from dense hardwood forests and towering ridges to cascading streams and open meadows. The preserve is home to a diverse array of plant species and wildlife, including black bears, deer, and various bird species. Originally private land, it was donated to the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy in 2001 by Dr. Tom and Glenis Florence. The trails are well-maintained, offering opportunities for hiking, bird watching, and photography, as they wind through scenic vistas and past historical remnants of early settlement, such as old cabins and logging roads. The natural appeal combined with the historical elements provides a rich experience for visitors exploring the mountainous landscape.
