About Bhawal National Park

Bhawal National Park, located in the Gazipur District of central Bangladesh, spans approximately 5,022 hectares of wetland and forest, making it one of the country's largest protected areas. Originally recognized as a game reserve under British rule, the park has evolved into a haven for biodiversity, with its semi-evergreen forest sheltering numerous plant and animal species. Among these are deer, several types of monkeys, jackals, and birds like the spotted dove, creating a vibrant and dynamic ecosystem. The park's history is interwoven with that of the Bhawal estate, once ruled by the noble Bhawal Raja family. Today, the park serves as a cornerstone for conservation education and outdoor recreation, attracting thousands of visitors each year who come to enjoy its tranquil environment. Hiking trails crisscross the park, leading adventurers through verdant forests and along serene lakes, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Dhaka, which is only about 50 km away.
