Located off the coast of Placencia, Belize, Gladden Spit and Silk Cayes Marine Reserve is an underwater sanctuary spanning approximately 25,980 acres. The reserve is famous for its coral reefs, healthy mangroves, and seagrass beds. It serves as a vital spawning site for various marine species, drawing snorkelers and divers who are eager to see the congregating fish and majestic whale sharks. Established in 2000, the reserve is integral to the conservation of marine ecosystems in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.
