About Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area

Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area spans over 3,100 acres in portions of White, Carroll, and Cass counties in Indiana. The area features a mix of wetlands, open water lakes, upland forests, grasslands, and agricultural fields managed to support abundant native wildlife and provide quality outdoor recreation. The main water body, a 250-acre reservoir, attracts anglers targeting largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. Throughout the property, visitors can enjoy excellent waterfowl hunting during migratory seasons, as well as upland game bird hunting. Wildlife watchers often spot deer, wild turkey, various waterfowl species, and songbirds. Established in 1951, the site supports both public hunting and fishing with accessible boat ramps, fishing piers, and several trails. The area also caters to archery and small game hunters with multiple designated zones. Recreational opportunities extend to hiking, birding, and nature photography, making it popular for family outings and outdoor enthusiasts. The habitats are managed through cooperative farming, periodic habitat restoration, and controlled burning to maintain ecological diversity. Though there is no developed camping area within the fish and wildlife area, several nearby state parks and forests provide camping options. Due to its location and rich wetland habitats, the Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area is an important refuge for migratory birds and local wildlife, drawing visitors especially in spring and fall migration seasons. The site offers tranquil surroundings and the chance to engage in a range of fishing and hunting activities in a natural setting.
