Mission Bay Park spans 4,235 acres, with nearly 50% of this area being water. It consists of over 27 miles of shoreline, with 19 of those actually along sandy beaches. The park is a hub for various water activities due to its extensive bay setting. The land area of the park is highly accessible with picnic areas, playgrounds, and paths. Historically, the area was transformed from a tidal marshland into a recreational wonderland in the 1940s and 1950s under the Mission Bay Development Plan.
